I managed to get a new job. They needed some help at Flourish & Blotts after.. well, what happened. I didn't want to seem like an opportunist, but it does help that I have a vast knowledge of the literary world. I start tomorrow, which is great. I'm hoping to be back on my feet, earning an income of sorts soon. I can't tell you how much weight has lifted off my shoulders from this prospect. I am not trying to sound as if I'm taking advantage of what happened; truly, I want to help out the store as it has always been a favorite of mine.

I suppose that's all I have to say right now.

That's good. That you're helping them out and all.

Thank you. I owe it to the store after all the time I've spent reading in there without buying anything.

They're lucky to have someone who's willing to do so.

Merlin, why would you want to work there? The pay is horrible, the customers annoying, and - and I was hoping for a raise soon.

I suppose then one wonders why you work there if it's as awful as you say.

There are two reasons. One (the altruistic and fluffy reason) is that it's because I love books and work is a constructive way to pass the time.

...But that's hardly the truth. I suppose the real reason I work there is because one can never have enough spending money and even though the pay is awful, I still love to gossip about the idiots who swagger through that place's doors. It's great fun.

The pay is awful? I thought it was quite generous. I wonder if we'll be working together much..?

Generous? Please. It's disgustingly low, which is horrible because our shifts are long and we're treated like peasants. And yes, we probably will be working together. Don't cause me trouble.

I suppose 'generous' is relative. And I wouldn't dream of causing you trouble. I doubt you'll even know I'm there.

Don't give me that. I notice when the books have the slightest dents in their spines. With my dedication, I should be paid more. So I think I'd notice a new co-worker.

Well, seeing as I have no intention of denting any spines, I might go unnoticed. But if for some reason you do notice me, it won't be because I'm causing trouble.

Really. Well, we'll see. Every single co-worker I've had has caused trouble. Or they flat-out irritated me.

Every single one? Did you perhaps stop to consider that the one consistent factor in each of those troubling encounters is you?

Just an observation. Something to think about while you go about your dull responsibilities at work.

Snotty? My goodness. I've been called plenty of things during the course of my short life, but 'snotty' is certainly a new one.

What can I say. I'm a unique and creative snowflake. But whatever. This conversation poisons my brain cells. Don't you dare be late tomorrow.

That's brilliant, Moony! Congrats!

I do believe this calls for just about as much chocolate as you want. You name it, you've got it.

Of course I know the way to your heart! I wouldn't be me if I didn't. Tell me now, what do you want?

You're certainly right about that. What do I want? That's a dangerous question. Though I hardly think it's necessary for you to deplete any of your funds towards my chocolate addiction, if you find yourself anywhere near any dark chocolate truffles... I might want one.

One? Just one? That's a lie. You definitely want more than one. Dark chocolate truffles are no problem! Smell that, Remus? It's the smell of chocolate. And it's coming from the kitchen. And no I didn't make them. I bought them. I thought you might actually want to be able to consume them and you'd probably get mad at me if I ruined perfectly good chocolate.

Thank you very much, Lily. I'm looking quite forward to starting. I do hope you'll come by to visit sometimes. I can show you loads of good reads.
