Who is Your Character?
Full Name:
Remus John Lupin
Nicknames: Moony, maybe Remy every now and then
Age/Birthday: March 10, 1960. Depending on the time of year in game, he'd be either 18 or 19.
House and Years Attended: Gryffindor, 1971-1978
Blood Status: Halfblood
Occupation (if applicable): Due to his condition, it is very difficult for Remus to hold any sort of steady work.
Alliance: Order of the Phoenix
Boggart: The full Moon
Patronus: He's only been able to cast an indistinct shape so far, but it would form into a canine-like creature.

Personality (include several weaknesses and strengths):

Remus is painfully shy around those he's not comfortable around. He is reluctant to initiate conversation, and typically prefers to observe quietly. When surrounded by what few close friends he has, Remus is actually quite witty, bordering on charming. His intelligence makes him well versed in many subjects. Out of the Marauders, he is the most level headed and rational. He does not possess the ego of James or Sirius, though he does enjoy bantering back and forth with them from time to time. Remus is not quick to trust anyone, but at the same time he does long for companionship. It's a very complex sort of mentality that he is trying to balance out.

Family and Friends (list relationships with them):

Sirius Black: Sirius is Remus' best friend. He feels closer to him than anyone else, and cares a great deal about him. He admires him for sticking to his beliefs and defying his family, believing it to be a great display of strength.

James Potter: James would be Remus' other best friend. James (and Sirius too) is the type of person Remus once dreamt of being. Outgoing, handsome, and confident. Remus had a little bit of idol worship for James and Sirius when they first befriended him, but after getting to know them both better that turned more into admiration.

Peter Pettigrew: Remus was always amused by Peter. While Remus' idolization of James and Sirius morphed into a deeper friendship, it seemed like Peter's only intensified as time went on. Remus found that to be entertaining most of the time. The two of them often stood back and let Sirius and James have the center stage in their antics. Remus would usually turn a blind eye, while Peter cheered from the sidelines. Regardless of that, Remus and Peter's friendship grew from being the two sidekicks to James and Sirius.

Lily Evans: Remus always tried to be polite to her during the stunts James pulled to get her attention. He probably spoke on his friend's behalf more than once to try to get him in her good graces. Beyond that, Remus really admires Lily for her spirit and the fact that she both has morals and is not afraid to speak her mind (especially where James was concerned). He wishes he had more of that, especially while he was a school prefect.

Parents: Remus loves his parents, though they have put a self-imposed distance between themselves and their son. Remus' father John feels responsible for his son's condition, and his mother doesn't know how to not make it a big deal. She tried to treat Remus normally, but highlighting how "normal" he was just made the lycanthropy even more obvious in all of their heads. They owned a piece of property in the countryside that had a heavily wooded area in one part. When Remus was younger, and during his summers away from Hogwarts, he would be sent there during his transformations. His father fashioned a chane that Remus, as a werwolf, could not break out of. They secured him the morning his transformations were to take place and would come to fetch him after the full moon. It was the only way to keep him secure when he was away from the Shrieking Shack and his friends. His mother used to go with him, to be with him during the difficult time, but there was one night when she got too close and Remus nearly bit her. After being informed of that, Remus requested she not go with him anymore. He no longer lives with his parents, but writes to them every week and visits sometimes.

Appearance (paragraph minimum.):

Remus is tall and thin, with messy brown hair and greenish blue eyes. The state of his appearance goes through many changes depending on the stage of the lunar cycle. At times he appears quite healthy, like any other young man his age. The closer to the full moon, however, he gets a little hairier and much more worn down. The pain he endures during that time sometimes leaves him in a state of needing the use of a cane. He tries to tough it out and not use it when he can avoid it, though. His body is marked with scars from his painful transformations where he would bite and claw himself, but most of them are hidden by his clothing. He generally has a tired expression on his face, but brightens when he is around his friends.

Sexuality: Heterosexual..ish. He loves Sirius and James a little more than what would be deemed as "friends" .. but he probably has little to no idea what that means, and even if he did he would be far too shy to explore it.

Achievements (OWLS, NEWTS, Animagus, Quidditch, etc.): Remus is extremely intelligent. His love for books and thirst for knowledge makes him very quick to pick up on things. He always received high, if not top, marks in his classes. Despite his meek and quiet nature, Remus is actually a very skilled wizard. So much so, that he has learned to use wandless magic. This comes in handy, especially when he is stricken with illness due to his lycanthropy and has trouble lifting/aiming his wand. He was particularly gifted in Defense Against the Dark Arts, which was mostly so he could learn more about the beast inside of him, and how best to deal with it.

Hobbies (Quidditch, Astronomy, Chess, Gob Stones): First and formost, reading. He is very well versed on almost any subject. Remus took an interest in Astronomy early on, mostly to memorize lunar cycles, but he finds all aspects of it fascinating. Remus also enjoys a game of chess, and while he does not play himself he does like watching Quidditch matches.

Biography (three paragraphs minimum):

Remus was born on March 10, 1960 and was an only child. His mother's parents were muggles, his father came from a long line of wizards. The Lupins lived a modest lifestyle, but always had food on the table and there was never a lack of love to go around. Remus had a weak immune system and was sick often as a child, so his parents opted to have him tutored privately rather than attend primary school. He was quick to learn his subjects, and advanced beyond the normal academic levels for his age. Being isolated from other children his age so much of the time led to Remus' love for books. Quite often his parents could find him curled up in the corner of a room with a stack of books beside him. It was hard to find a book their child hadn't read. It was also that isolation that drove him to be painfully shy and hesitant to approach his peers.

Through circumstances out of Remus' control, the werewolf Fenrir Greyback was offended by Remus' father. Greyback ended up biting Remus on a rare occasion when Remus was playing outside. The result, along with the trauma that still haunts him to this day, was that Remus became a werewolf as well. He was very young when this incident happened, and any hope that Remus would eventually outgrow his shyness and become more friendly with children his age flew out the window after he was bitten. His parents pulled him into even further isolation. Even when he received his invitation to attend Hogwarts after his eleventh birthday, the Lupins were very hesitant to allow their son to go away to school. It was not until they were assured by Dumbledore himself that Remus would be safe and taken care of that they relented and allowed their son to go.

Upon arriving at Hogwarts, Remus was sorted into Gryffindor. He kept to himself as much as he could, but secretly wished to have a group of friends he could fit in with. Lacking confidence kept him from approaching many of his housemates, but eventually he grew to find he quite liked his dorm mates; James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew. They helped him break from his shyness, and got along quite well. Remus felt guilty though, having to keep a part of himself a secret from the friends he came to treasure so much. He had no choice however, because who would want to be friends with a werewolf?

Dumbledore arranged for a shack to be built in Hogsmeade where Remus was to go to by way of a secret passage leading from the Whomping Willow every month during the full moon in order to conceal his secret. The transformation from human to werewolf involved excruciating pain, and with no one to chase after or fight with, Remus (as a werewolf) would attack himself with his claws and teeth, usually resulting in nasty gashes and bite marks. The cries of pain that those in Hogsmeade heard were so violent and wrenching that the building was dubbed the Shrieking Shack, believed to be haunted by frightening and murderous ghosts. This rumor kept curious visitors away, and helped keep Remus' secret.

During his second year at Hogwarts, James, Sirius, and Peter came to find out about Remus' secret and where he disappeared to every month. It wasn't easy to come up with new excuses all the time, covering up his whereabouts as well as why he had fresh wounds everytime he returned. Remus feared the worst, that his cherished friends would become disgusted with him and abandon him, but that was not the case. In fact, they seemed impressed by it. Remus had always felt like an outcast, but they made him feel special. So much so, that in their fifth year, James, Peter, and Sirius developed the ability to become animagi. When Remus had to report to the Shrieking Shack, they went with him and transformed to keep him company and under control so he wouldn't attack himself so harshly. They became the Marauders; Moony, Prongs, Padfoot, and Wormtail. Together they developed what was known as The Marauders Map and began their legacy.

It was also during his fifth year that Remus was given the honor of becoming a House Prefect. Though they teased him about it, this was a monumentally wonderful thing for his friends because it meant they could get away with just about anything they wanted. Remus, though usually one to play by the rules, often looked the other way when James or Sirius did something to cause trouble or ruffle the feathers of other students -- particularly Severus Snape. Secretly, he did not always approve of their antics, but because they meant so much to him, Remus conveniently turned a blind eye to all of it. Perhaps that made him the most ruthless of all the Marauders in a way, but he reasoned that they were school boys and mischief was just part of that.

Their sixth year marked a turning point in what was otherwise a friendship that was too good to be true.

The prank that went too far.

The Marauders were known throughout Hogwarts for their antics and mischief, mostly dealt out by James and Sirius. Remus usually went along with it, if only to please his friends and make sure they did not get into too much trouble. However, he could not always be there to be the voice of reason. Sometimes his friends got a little carried away. The usual target was a Slytherin boy in their year, Severus Snape.

Severus, while usually the one always bested by them (James in particular), was also very determined to thwart the Marauders and followed them at a distance, jumping at any opportunity to outwit or get them into trouble. One month during their sixth year, Remus went to the Shrieking Shack like he always did to endure his transformation due to the full moon. Severus was apparently very curious as to where Remus disappeared to every month, and Sirius fed his curiosity by telling him how to get through the secret passage to the Shrieking Shack, knowing full well Severus would go. Sirius also knew that it would be highly likely that Severus could be killed if Remus saw him in his werewolf form. Remus was completely oblivious to Sirius' prank, and had no knowledge of it until after the incident happened. He was told that James stopped Severus before he got too far, but that the Slytherin boy had seen Remus as a werewolf. Much to his relief, he also learned that Dumbledore found out and swore Severus to secrecy.

Remus, ever the people pleaser, was not one to usually become angry with his friends. However, in this case there was an exception. He was both infuriated and hurt by Sirius' poor lack of judgement in the situation. Severus was not his favorite person in the world, but that had been far too extreme of a prank. Not only was his secret out, Remus could've killed Severus and had that on his shoulders for the rest of his life. This wasn't an act of mischief. It was stupidity. He almost felt betrayed by it. How could his best friend take his lycanthropy so lightly? Was that how Sirius had always seen it? A game?

As much as he wanted to express his hurt and concern over the issue, Remus clammed up and said nothing. He forgave his friend, but this was something he could never forget. Severus had potential power over him, which made him nervous. Remus hoped that this would never come back to bite him, so to speak, but he felt some relief that Dumbledore had intervened. He never brought the incident up, and did his best to keep it out of his thoughts. Sirius, James, and Peter had done so much for him over the years that he just couldn't stay angry. Remus valued their friendship above everything else. He just hoped that they did, too.

After graduating, Remus left his parents' home to live on his own. It wasn't easy, with his condition. It made finding work terribly difficult. Fortunately, Remus had some money saved from an inheritence after the death of a grandparent. It wasn't much, but it was enough for him to obtain a studio apartment in London. His employment varies, because it'd hard for him to hold down a steady job. He uses what he has in his savings to pay his rent, and whatever he earns from whatever job he has at the time is what buys his food and clothing. Needless to say, he doesn't have very much of either. But having always been modest, Remus doesn't complain. He honestly didn't expect much more for himself, so there was no point in being down about it.
